Chamber hosting holiday lights contests for businesses and residents

Monday, November 28, 2022 - The Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce is inviting all local merchants and residents to participate in two city-wide holiday competitions.

These competitions include the annual storefront decorating competition for businesses and an all-new competition called "Deck the Yard" for residents of Sallisaw.

"Deck the Yard is a home decorating contest where residents get the opportunity to compete for prizes by having the best decorated home and yard," Chamber Director Marty Green said. "The idea came from us wanting to give families the opportunity to get out and spend time together. What better way to do that than to drive around town looking at the lights and decorations together?"

There is no set decorating theme for merchants or residents; however, storefront contestants must have something more than just painting on windows. Participants are encouraged to use their imaginations and think outside the box.

Judging for both contests will be held on Dec. 12 from 6–8 p.m. and will be based on the following criteria: eye appeal, creativity, usage of lights, and uniqueness of the chosen theme.

Deck the Yard contestants will be judged in four divisions based on their city ward.

Contest winners will be announced on Dec. 14 at the monthly Chamber Membership Luncheon, which takes place at the First United Methodist Church at 12 p.m.

Prize money will be awarded, and pictures will be taken at this time. Green said, "Please make sure someone from your organization is present to receive prizes."

Entry forms can be downloaded from the chamber website at www.sallisawchamber.com or picked up at the Sallisaw Chamber office Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All entries must be turned into the chamber office no later than Friday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.
