Wednesday, July 21, 2021 - The Sequoyah County Boys and Girls Club in Sallisaw will be closed for the remainder of the summer following two confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus.
Club board president Lindsie Dyer stated that two individuals connected to the club have tested positive at this time. Club staff are attempting to contact all parents of students to notify them of the cases and of the club closing. The Sequoyah County Health Department has also been contacted by club officials.
Dyer stated that staff members have been following all CDC guidelines throughout the summer.
"We have followed all of the guidelines for student/teacher ratio and have maintained an extensive cleaning and bleaching policy on a daily basis," Dyer said. Temperature checks were also conducted each day.
A sanitation crew is scheduled to begin a complete cleaning and sterilization of the club beginning on Thursday.
Dyer stated that the club should be ready to return to its normal operation on August 12 when Sallisaw Public School returns to class.
"We operate on the same schedule as the school. If they go back as scheduled, we expect to be open also," Dyer said.
Anyone who has been in contact with staff or students of the club is advised to be aware of the situation.
"We have taken every precaution we possibly could and don't believe we could have done any more to prevent this from happening," Dyer added. "The health of our students and staff is our main priority right now and that is what led us to make this difficult decision."
