78th Annual Lions Club Rodeo kicks off tomorrow


Wednesday, August 3, 2022 - It's almost time for the 78th annual Sallisaw Lions Club IPRA championship rodeo. The rodeo action will take place on August 4, 5, and 6, with the general rodeo starting each night at 8 p.m.


The fun will kick off tomorrow with the Sallisaw Rodeo parade at 5:30 p.m. The parade line-up will begin at 5 p.m. at the Sallisaw rodeo grounds and everyone is welcome to join in.


The three-day action-packed rodeo will feature a variety of categories that will provide entertainment for all ages. Wild horse races, bull riding, team roping and barrel racing are just a few of the crowd-pleasing events that will be happening throughout the weekend. And everyone loves the antics of the rodeo clown!


Mutton bustin' will be taking place for those little cowboys and cowgirls each night at 6:30 p. m. Children must be ages 4-8 and weigh under 50 lbs. in order to compete.


Signups for Mutton Bustin will take place each night at 5:30 p.m. at the contestant entry gate. The entry fee is $15 per contestant, and the top ten placings will ride again in the main rodeo. The nightly winner will receive $25 and a plaque.


Live music and a rodeo dance will be held on both Friday and Saturday night. On Friday night, Brandon Bethel with special guest Wyatt Shumate will be taking the stage, and on Saturday night, Lance Roark will be the entertainment for the rodeo after show.


Admission for adults will be $8; $5 for kids ages 6-10; and those 5 and under will be admitted free.


It’s going to be an exciting weekend full of rodeo fun and activities in Sallisaw. Load up the family, invite your friends, and don’t forget that cowboy hat as you head out to enjoy the 78th Annual Lions Club Rodeo.
