Monday, July 12, 2021 - It's almost time for the 49th annual Garrison Creek Rodeo, set for July 16-17 in Muldrow.
The rodeo will be at the Garrison Riders Arena and will begin with mutton-bustin' for kids weighing 60 pounds and under at 7:30 each night.
Professional rodeo announcer Woody Woodruff said organizers of the rodeo, all volunteers, have “put their heart and souls” into planning the event, and “you couldn't ask for a better group of people. I love them all dearly.”
The Muldrow rodeo went on as planned in 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and Woodruff promises that this year's rodeo will be even better. “Everybody thinks it's just a small-town rodeo, but you would be surprised,” he said.
Woodruff said funnyman Brandon McClure will be on hand to entertain the audience throughout the rodeo. “I've known him since 1999,” he said. “He's one of the best going. You can tell he loves what he does.”
A dance is scheduled for Saturday, July 17, after the rodeo. The band Makin Cents will perform.
Woodruff says the food, always a rodeo favorite, is going to be “top-notch” this year. “I take my hat off to the folks who work in the concessions. Every year they are ready to go.”
Woodruff praised everyone working to put the 49th annual event together. “They try to put on the best show they can, to give people their money's worth. We expect a good crowd.”
Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12 and kids 5 and under get in free.
The Garrison Riders Arena is on Highway 64 between Roland and Muldrow.
Woodruff said he loves what he does. “I have been doing this a long time and I have enjoyed myself along the way.”
