Monday, April 11, 2022 - A new and exciting business has landed in town. Are you adventurous? Do you love the feeling of adrenaline rushing through your veins? Do you have a fear of heights that you want to overcome? If you’re able to relate to any of the above questions, then you’ll definitely want to check out the all-new Adventure Skydive Center in Sallisaw.
Haylee Dyer of Roland was just one of many
that enjoyed their first-time tandem jumping experience.
Hundreds of people were on hand Saturday at the Sallisaw Municipal Airport to watch both experienced and amateur skydivers take the plunge and help welcome this new business to the area.
Sherri Young and Paul Tucker (above) are a husband and wife skydiving team dedicated to bringing the joy of skydiving to the City of Sallisaw. The couple started with just a single jump and are now drop zone owners right here in Sequoyah County.
Paul Tucker is a native of Tennessee and a veteran of the United States Army. Tucker has hundreds of skydives under his belt, is a United States Parachute Association (USPA) assisted deployment instructor (IAD), and has his Coach Rating. In order to receive a USPA coach rating, one has to earn at least 100 jumps.
Sherri Young is a native of Colorado and a Federal Aviation Association Senior Parachute Rigger. Like Tucker, Young also has made hundreds of skydives and is working towards her coach rating.
Tucker said, "My wife, Sherri, and I have been skydiving for a little more than 3 years. I teach you how to safely skydive and the coaches teach you all the fun flying stuff. "
The Adventure Skydive Center offers tandem skydiving for newcomers. Tandem skydiving is when an individual is secured to a USPA-trained instructor and the two descend from the plane together. The business also offers lift tickets and gear rentals for licensed skydivers.
"We also have a 501(c)3 organization called Divers United for Veterans. Through this organization, we take veterans skydiving, scuba diving, hiking, whatever, "Tucker added.
Discounts are available for veterans, college students, individuals 65 years and older, first responders (police, EMT, fire) and groups of five or more people.
