Sequoyah County Treasurer warns of due date error on tax statements

Monday, December 6, 2021 - An error was recently discovered on the 2021 property and personal tax statements sent to Sequoyah County residents in November.

Sequoyah County Treasurer Angela Gist said the 2021 tax statements do not reflect the proper due dates for property and personal taxes to be paid. The correct due dates for residents' 2021 property and personal taxes are December 31, 2021 for the first half or all of the payment and March 31, 2022 for the second half.

Gist explained that if either the first half or all taxes are not paid or postmarked by December 31 the full amount due will become delinquent.

Due to New Years Day falling on a Saturday, the Sequoyah County Courthouse will be closed this year on Friday, December 31. The treasurer's office will accept payments made in person on January 3, 2022, without penalties. However, the United States Postal Service has confirmed that they will be open on December 31, so Gist added there will not be an extension to the postmark date for those choosing to mail their payments, Gist added.
