Sunday, July 6, 2025 — With summer winding down and the first day of school quickly approaching, the Sequoyah County Health Department is stepping in to help families prepare. On Wednesday, July 23, local youth will have access to essential health services at a special back-to-school event at the Cherokee Community Center in Muldrow.
From 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., children can receive routine childhood immunizations, sports and band physicals at no cost, general health exams, and oral assessments with fluoride varnish—all in one convenient location.
The event is part of an effort to ensure students head back to school healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Health officials are especially encouraging families with children participating in athletics or music programs to take advantage of the free physicals being offered.
Vaccines will be available through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, which provides immunizations at no cost to children who are 18 years or younger and meet at least one of the following conditions: they are American Indian or Alaska Native, Medicaid-eligible, uninsured, or underinsured.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to bring any available immunization records to ensure children receive the vaccines they need.
The Cherokee Community Center is located at 607 N. Main Street in Muldrow.
