Registered sex offender charged with exposing himself to minor

Jonathan Wade Darland

Monday, April 25, 2022 - A Muldrow man pleaded not guilty April 20 to indecent exposure, court records show.

If convicted, registered sex offender Jonathan Wade Darland, 27, faces up to 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine or both.

On April 17, a Muldrow police sergeant was contacted by a Sequoyah County man who stated that his underage daughter had been at Curt’s Gas Station in Muldrow earlier in the day and saw a male leave a nearby motel room, expose himself and make sexual motions.

The girl described the man and the clothes he was wearing to police and as the officer was pulling into the motel’s parking lot, a man matching the description was sitting outside.

Asked if he had done anything outside his apartment that day, Darland said no, but the officer informed him a complaint had been received from a juvenile alleging the indecent exposure.

Darland continued denying the claim, telling the officer he had taken a shower earlier and had left the room’s door open and someone may have seen him, and he said he was sorry if that had been the case.

Darland’s bond was set at $15,000. He is scheduled to appear in Sequoyah County Court at 9 a.m. on May 11.
