Muldrow man charged with larceny

Thursday, December 1, 2022 - A felony arrest warrant was issued Nov. 18 for a Muldrow man charged with larceny of an automobile, aircraft or other motor vehicle.

Bond for Carl Joseph Stephenson, 30, was set at $15,000. He was also charged with eluding/attempting to elude a police officer, a misdemeanor.

On Nov. 3, a Sequoyah County deputy received a report about a stolen vehicle possibly headed to the East Lake Hills area, and he soon spotted a maroon Honda CR-V that matched the description of the suspect vehicle.

While patrolling the area of East Lake Hills, the deputy found the CR-V parked behind a residence. The vehicle’s driver then drove away from the residence at a high rate of speed.

The driver then headed north up a cut trail. The officer initiated his lights and sirens again and gave chase. The chase proceeded north for about half a mile, then turned west on another cut trail for about one-eighth of a mile. Before the short pursuit ended, the driver of the vehicle exited the car and fled on foot.

Deputies were able to identify the driver as Stephenson.
