Miss Rodeo Sallisaw Pageant set for August 4-6

Thursday, June 2, 2022 - Calling all royalty! The 2022 Miss Rodeo Sallisaw Pageant is right around the corner, and organizers are seeking contestants, judges, and sponsors for this year’s event.

Organizer of the Miss Rodeo Sallisaw Pageant Lynn Spain said the pageant will consist of the following divisions:

Miss division-ages 16–23

Jr. Miss division-ages 11–15

The Sweetheart division-ages 10 and under

The event will kick off on Thursday evening, August 4, with the rodeo parade in Sallisaw. Spain said, "Although it’s not mandatory, we still like to invite all contestants out to participate in the rodeo parade that evening."

The pageant will officially begin on Friday, August 5 at approximately 10:00 a.m. with orientation taking place at the Indian Capital Technology Center. During orientation, the girls will go over the rules and regulations, draw for positions, and receive pageant information.

Contestants will go directly from orientation to the interview portion of the pageant. At 2:00 p.m., the girls will move on to showcase their modeling and speech skills for the judges.

The last phase of the pageant is horsemanship, which will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6 at the Sallisaw rodeo grounds. The winners will be crowned that evening, which will be the final night of the rodeo.

All categories of the pageant are open to the public except for the interview portion. "We would love to see everyone come out and show their support for all of this year's contestants," Spain added.

In addition to the rodeo, a queen clinic will be held on June 18. The clinic will teach the basics of a queen pageant. Topics taught during the clinic will include: how to construct a speech for competition; what judges look for in horsemanship; how to complete an interview; how to fill out an application; and how to model, including what types of clothing are worn in competitions.

The cost of the queen clinic is $30 per person. Each individual taking part in the clinic will receive a $25 credit toward their entry fee for this year’s Miss Rodeo Sallisaw Pageant.
