Fire Department to “Fill the Boot” tonight in Sallisaw

Friday, August 20, 2021 - The Sallisaw Fire Department will be urging residents to “Fill the Boot” from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at the intersection of Kerr Boulevard and Ruth Street.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Padgett said Friday that the SFD, along with other fire departments in Oklahoma, sets aside two Friday evenings each year to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

“The MDA helps a lot of Oklahoma families,” Padgett said.

The MDA transforms the lives of people with muscular dystrophy, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and related neuromuscular diseases through its funding of research, care and advocacy for more than 300,000 United States families.

Since 1950, the MDA has funded groundbreaking research for promising treatments and provided families with the highest-quality care from the best doctors in the country.

According to mda.org, “Each day freedoms are taken away from kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that weaken muscles and limit mobility. Together, we can change that!”
