Tuesday, June 15, 2021 - The Sallisaw Board of City Commissioners formally adopted the city's budget for fiscal year 2021-22 after a public hearing drew no comments at their regular monthly meeting Monday.
The commissioners then moved on to the consent agenda, where they approved the mayor's reappointment of Jane Cripps to the Sallisaw Library Board for a three-year term ending June 2024 and the reappointment of Debbie Bartel as the city and county representative to the Board of Trustees of the Sequoyah County-City of Sallisaw Hospital Authority for a one-year term expiring in June 2022. The panel also approved several annual agreements between the city and various entities around the city and county.
The commissioners also agreed on a lease agreement between the city and the Sallisaw NOW Coalition for office and storage space at the north end of the Chamber of Commerce building and at part of the Wheeler Event Center. The $2,300 monthly rent will include janitorial fees, which will be paid by the coalition's grant, City Manager Keith Skelton said.
The panel then discussed school resource officers for the upcoming year. Skelton said Sallisaw Public Schools will start the year with one SRO provided by the Sallisaw Police Department, with hopes of adding one more officer at a later time.
Skelton then was called on to discuss an agreement between Thomas Hanning of T3 Aerosports, LLC, and the City of Sallisaw. Hanning, who provides fixed-base operator services at Sallisaw Municipal Airport, “has made tremendous strides at the airport in increasing traffic and generating a lot more interest in hangar space,” Skelton said.
“We've been working really hard out there,” Hanning said at the meeting. “It has improved a lot out there with the help of your group.” The commissioners unanimously approved the agreement between the city and T3 Aerosports.
