CASC announces first Wrestling Golf Tournament fundraiser

Friday, October 15, 2021 - The athletics department of Carl Albert State College has announced the very first Viking wrestling golf fundraiser. The golf tournament will be held Friday, October 22, 2021, at Cherokee Springs in Tahlequah. Event registration begins at 9 am, with tee off at 10 am.

The fundraiser is the first of hopefully many for the new wrestling program. Viking men’s wrestling was launched this fall as a fully-sanctioned NJCAA athletics program, with women’s wrestling following in the fall of 2022. The tournament is being spearheaded by Craig Benson of Firstar Bank, along with members of the CASC coaching and marketing staff.

“We are looking forward to starting this annual event where we get to have some fun playing golf, and rub shoulders with community members and supporters of CASC Wrestling,” said wrestling coach Jake Lords. “We appreciate the support from community members, fans, and eventually, alumni. The funds raised from this golf tournament will assist in paying for all aspects of the wrestling program including travel, meals, equipment, gear, etc. We are so thankful for this community and the businesses who are part of our family already!”

The launch of Viking wrestling has been met with much optimism, support, and enthusiasm from the communities Carl Albert serves. The tournament should prove to be a successful addition to a host of activities centered around Viking wrestling. “This event will be a great start to the upcoming season for Carl Albert State College’s inaugural Wrestling season,” said Craig Benson. “We are very fortunate to have several generous boosters who are willing to invest in the future of Viking Wrestling!!”

Those who participate in the tournament have the chance to secure $800 for first place, $500 for second place, or $250 for third place. A custom putter and a custom driver will be the prizes for “closest to pin” and “longest drive”, respectfully. Additionally, sponsorship opportunities are available ranging from $200 to $2000.
