Wednesday, December 6, 2021 - The Town of Vian’s administration and staff have been hard at work preparing for the town's "Downtown in December" Christmas event. Downtown in December is set to take place on the main streets of downtown Vian on Thursday, December 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Lyndsey Sullivan, member of the Vian Community Foundation, said this event has been held for four years and is something the entire town looks forwards to. Downtown in December is free to the public each year due to the generosity of local donors and sponsors. Sullivan added that the three main sponsors this year are the Vian Community Foundation, the Sallisaw Cherokee Casino, and the Town of Vian.
"There will be food and drinks, carriage rides, live reindeer, and a petting zoo. Additional activities include pony rides, train rides, and stocking giveaways, along with the kiddos getting the opportunity to snap a photo with good ole St. Nick," Sullivan said. "Vian Public School’s choir will be providing the entertainment for the night, making this a family outing that offers something for all ages."
The Vian PTO will be present handing out coats and books, which they have received through their coat and book drive. If you would like to donate a children's book or coat, you may do so by dropping the items off at the field house downtown. Donations will be accepted up until the day of the event.
"We try to make this a unique and special occasion for the entire community to celebrate this special time of the year," Sullivan stated.
