Sallisaw man charged with gun violation

Tuesday, March 1, 2022 - A search for a stolen pickup led to the Feb. 22 arrest of a Sallisaw man found in possession of a stolen firearm.

Ethan Miles Branham, 29, was charged with possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

According to court records, a Sequoyah County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched Feb. 22 to a Muldrow residence after a truck reported stolen Feb. 21 in Sallisaw was spotted at that location.

When the deputy arrived at the scene, the owner of the stolen 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, was waiting near the residence.

The deputy, who had searched for the truck in Brushy the day before, was informed by Sallisaw police that a Kimber Creedmore bolt-action rifle and a Ruger .22 revolver were in the vehicle when it was stolen.

At the scene, the deputy saw a dark gray Silverado parked there. When the officer exited his patrol vehicle, a man later identified as Branham exited the truck’s driver’s seat and began walking toward the back of the home.

As Branham turned to face the deputy and was ordered to take his hands out of his pockets, the suspect was holding a pocketknife with the blade locked open. He then threw the knife on the ground and was handcuffed.

The two firearms were discovered during a search of the truck.
