One dead in Friday crash


Monday, January 23, 2023 - A Friday car crash and fire on Interstate 40 left an unidentified individual dead at the scene.


The fatality collision took place Friday evening 1/10 of a mile east of mile marker 318 westbound, three miles west of Muldrow.


According to a corrected Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report, a westbound truck hit another car from behind. The truck then departed the roadway to the left striking the cable barrier and traveling approximately 120 yards before it came to rest.


Firefighters were reportedly on the scene in under 10 minutes but the vehicle was fully engulfed.


The make and model of the burned truck is unknown and the name of the deceased driver is being withheld pending positive identification by the medical examiner. The driver was pronounced at the scene by Pafford EMS personnel from massive injuries.


The cause of the accident is under investigation.


The OHP was assisted at the scene by members of Pafford EMS, Muldrow Fire Department, Muldrow Police Department, and Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office.
