Thursday, November 4, 2021 - Blunt Baptist Church will be holding a "huge" garage sale fundraiser this Friday and Saturday, November 5 and 6. The sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. both days. The church is located 5 miles north of Sallisaw on Old Highway 17.
All proceeds from the sale will go to build a playground at the church in honor of the late Leroy and Freddie Mae Reid. The playground will be dedicated as The Leroy and Freddie Reid Blunt Children's playground.
Leroy Reid pastored Blunt Baptist Church for 13 years before his passing in 2008. Freddie Reid served faithfully by his side and continued until her passing on October 18 of this year. Leroy and Freddie worked as a team to reach the Blunt Community and areas all around Sallisaw for Jesus. Spending countless hours ministering and helping others, they were a much loved couple known for making a huge difference in the lives of many.
According to sale organizers the sale is going to be "huge" and one that will have something for all types of shoppers. There will be many large items for sale including furniture, antiques, exercise equipment, desks and much more. There will also be kitchen items, clothing, home decor, and toys.
Rene' Blount, daughter of the Reids, said that the family is excited about the building of the playground and she is 'very honored' that it will be named after her parents. "We're just really honored that the church is doing this," Blount said. "Hopefully this sale will create enough funds to put the total over the top and construction can begin."
Current Blunt Baptist Pastor Marcus Dorsey said plans for the playground include a large, child-friendly playset, benches, covered picnic area and more, all surrounded by security fencing. "We look forward to serving the community by providing a safe place for Blunt kids to play," Dorsey said.
