Thursday, May 18, 2023 - At a special city council meeting held Tuesday, May 16, Sallisaw city officials provided updated information regarding the unsolicited offer by CARDS Recycling and Waste Management to purchase the Sallisaw landfill facility.
CARDS presented the city with two additional offers which were outlined by City Manager Keith Skelton. The two new offers bring the total up to three. Two of the offers involve a partnership with the city and one is an offer to purchase the landfill and its sanitation services.
CARDS also increased its initial purchase bid to $28,192,778. This is an increase of $3,842,187 from their original offer.
Negotiations will continue in the next couple of weeks between the city, CARDS and other interested parties, to determine which option is best for the community. Skelton explained that if a decision is made between now and the June 12 regular city council meeting, he will call a special meeting for a vote that would either allow or deny progression in the landfill sale.
