City of Sallisaw offers free disinfectant

Wednesday, January 11, 2022 - Active cases of COVID-19 are steadily increasing every day throughout our community. Therefore, it is extremely important to disinfect and sanitize high-trafficked areas multiple times a day. If you are looking for a safe disinfectant for your business, organization, or home, then you’re in luck.

The City of Sallisaw is currently offering a safe disinfectant called Hypochlorous Acid (HOCI) to the general public. The disinfectant is free of charge to everyone, regardless of what town you reside in.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), "Hypochlorite is the most widely used of the chlorine disinfectants that are approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)."

To obtain the disinfectant, the city asks that you call city hall at 918-775-6241 to schedule an appointment.

Pickup times are offered Monday-Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. each day. The pick-up location is at the Sallisaw Parks Department on West Quesenberry, east of Elm Street.

Those who wish to acquire HOCI are asked to bring a plastic container with a sealing lid that does not exceed 5 gallons. HOCI has a shelf life of three to six months as long as it is stored in an airtight container.

HOCI can be used in a spray bottle but is safe enough to be used by pouring directly onto a rag to wipe surfaces clean.
