Catholic Charities in need of donations

Tuesday, November 29, 2021 - Catholic Charities Rural Outreach in Sallisaw is currently seeking donations to assist with needs within the community.

Pam Wemhaner, Sallisaw Catholic Charities manager, said that items such as frozen turkeys, hams, and all the fixings are needed this month to help provide Sequoyah County families with a complete Christmas meal. "The more donations we receive, the more families our organization will be able to serve," Wemhaner said.

In addition to Christmas food items, there is also a need for new space heaters. These can be purchased for as little as fifteen dollars each and have the ability to heat one room. "We are asking for new heaters due to the fire danger that used space heaters can create. If anyone would like to donate financially, they are able to specify that their funds go towards space heaters, and we will be glad to pick them up," Wemhaner added.

Another huge need right now is for new or gently used blankets. Large blankets or bed comforters are needed more than smaller throw blankets.

"We have been blessed this year with plenty of clothing and coats, but a few things we have a hard time keeping in stock are new underwear, socks, soap, and toilet paper. These are staple items that are needed for men, women, and children of all ages year round, "Wemhaner stated.

Donations can be dropped off at Catholic Charities, 409 N. Adams St. in Sallisaw between 9 a.m and 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

For questions regarding donations, contact Pam Wemhaner at 918-775-6111.
