If you haven't figured it out yet, it's HOT OUTSIDE! But, that doesn't mean we cannot just stop doing things outside. Some of us have kids that play sports, or we at least have to mow our yards. So in the video below are some tips to help you beat the heat and stay safe!
This past week or so my family and I went on vacation to our nations capitol Washington D.C. While there we were able to tour the "Newseum" which is a museum that is dedicated to the news. They had on display every major newspaper story from the past 100 years, part of the damaged antenna which was on top of the North tower of the World Trade Center the day of the 9/11 attacks, the largest sections of the actual Berlin Wall outside of Germany, and yes even OJ Simpsons suit he was wearing during the infamous "not guilty" verdict. If you ever are in Washington D.C. I highly recommend you visit the Newseum.
So yesterday NASCAR was supposed to run their annual July race at Daytona. Well the rain ended up pushing it to a Monday morning start local time. The race was full of crashes and nonsense. The race ended just after 3 am in Daytona (2 am here and yes I stayed up and watched it to the finish) and it was a finish that everyone will be talking about for weeks for all the wrong reason. No it wasn't that NASCAR's golden child Dale Earnhardt, JR won the race, it was the fact that a last lap crash tore up a bunch of race cars and sent Austin Dillon's #3 RCR racing car airborne and into the catch fence in one of the most violent wrecks you will ever see. Luckily Daytona is remodeling and not too many fans were near the crash area, or it would've been a lot worse. We are also lucky that Dillon's car hit the fence with the bottom of his car and not the roof, or I'm afraid that we would be dealing with something much worse. I've been watching NASCAR since 1987, and that year Bobby Allison went airborne at Talladega and the restrictor plate was introduced to slow the cars down. While I am a long time fan, I'm not an engineer. But there has to be a better solution than what's going on right now. It took Dale Earnhardt Sr dying in a crash before they stepped up the driver safety.... Let's hope it doesn't take the death of fans for them to solve this ongoing problem.
Have you noticed that Fireworks are getting just a little too exotic nowadays??? I guess I'm just old school, but giant rockets and spaceships that light up, fly and explode in the air just doesn't appeal to me. I'll take some m-80's, Black Cats, and maybe some jumping jacks anytime over that crazy stuff! What are some of your favorite types of fireworks???
My name is Justin Pettit and I was born and raised in Sequoyah County. I moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2000 and lived there until 2014. While in Northwest Arkansas I started working in Real Estate and was very successful earning multiple awards, but I got burned out and wanted to do what I always wanted and that was RADIO! So I went to broadcasting school and after graduating I began working in Sports radio. While in that market I covered all of the University of Arkansas football, basketball and baseball teams as well as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals minor league baseball team. But I am glad to be back home and working for The Mix! My wife Jennifer and I have 3 Kids, 2 dogs and make our home in the Central area.
